Have you experienced a loss of appetite?

Has anyone else out there experienced a drastic loss of appetite, where few foods satisfy your hunger, where you can only nibble on small portions? I gradually began losing my desire to eat early this year. My regular-sized dinner was cut in half, then I began skipping lunch, and now my diet usually consists of two small pancakes or a bowl of cereal for breakfast. One container of yogurt with flax seed meal for lunch, and a handful of crackers with peanut butter and an apple for dinner. Some days or evenings I skip eating lunch or dinner. Friends and family noticed. My clothes notice. It’s not that I’m complaining because we all want to loose weight.

But, here’s the strange part.

A woman I often talk to in my neighborhood lost twenty pounds in two months. She became so thin that her skin is barely hanging on her bones. She said she lost interest in everything: food, music, and reading, nothing is satisfying her. She’s gone to several doctors and they say it’s in her mind. Peculiar.

Then just a few weeks, a long-time friend called to say hello and we talked about someone in her life who has also lost her appetite. The woman isn’t eating much of anything. The family thinks she’s starving herself, but I told my friend that this is also happening to me. That got me wondering…

Have you, or anyone else you know, lost their appetite with no real explanation? If so, would you mind sharing with me what you discovered or how you are feeling?

Museum of Art in R. Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga has a Museum of Art! After searching the internet for galleries near my home, I was thrilled to find an art gallery nearby. On one rainy Sunday afternoon, I visited the museum and was greeted by Joyce who talked about the art and the history of the museum. I immediately became a member. One month later, at the Zornes’ Birthday Celebration I met more members. Now I am designing postcards for their upcoming exhibits. The postcard above is for the museum’s next art show called Figurative Vision. It features three artists who explore the human figure through line, color, and shape.

My challenge was how to evenly display three pieces of artwork, one tall and the others horizontal. My mind’s eye immediately saw the postcard split in three vertical shapes bleeding off the edges and cropping each painting to fit this space. Knowing that most clients want their logo BIG, I placed a big CCAA logo on the lower left. The exhibit chair asked me to make the logo much smaller and said it can even blend in with the artwork. Strange how most clients wanted their logo to be huge. “It shouts,” I would say, but in the end the client had the final say. Though this client understood the benefit of smaller elements surrounded by white space or “breathing room.” It may be because he is an artist himself. He is a photographer, author, and teacher. His website is genesasse.com.

Figurative Vision opening reception is on August 21, 2:00-4:30 pm and the show runs until October 2, 2011. If you are in the area, stop by to see some great art in a warm, inviting space. Visit http://www.ccaamuseum.org for more information.

Nature’s Blessings

Everywhere I go, these mountains are in sight. When I drive to the store, the library, or go to a meeting, they remain in full view. And the best time of all is when I’m hiking with Clue right behind my house. He is in his element as we trek through the paths, over stones and bushes, stirring up animals, like bunnies and squirrels and mockingbirds. Have you ever heard a mockingbird? The most beautiful music in nature. It’s like one animal playing a symphony.

On our way home, through the path that leads to our street, the bushes were full of this layer of morning dew. It looked like plastic holding the moisture, but when I touched a tiny corner, the water fell through. Looking at the photo, I saw the creature that created this large sheet of drops. He is dark tan, just one third from the left side and one third down. Another masterpiece I experienced on my walk. Truly, I am blessed to have nature all around.

Kundalini Yoga

“The past is out, the present is in, the future is clear,” a silent mantra used with quick hand movements starting with thumbs and fingers touching placed in front of your sternum, pushing hands outward then bringing them together again touching the base of your hands. This yoga practice is unlike traditional poses you may be familiar with and is done mostly while sitting with crossed legs. I am new to yoga and have been seeking the right practice to bring into my routine. Renting DVDs through Netflix before I made a purchase has been quite helpful. An energy healer recommended I try Kundalini Yoga to release decades of stress I carry in my body. Stimulating the adrenal glands and removing toxins, inhale/exhale breathing occurred naturally with every rocking movement. The short “breaths of fire” brought a spiral vibration through my muscles, sending chills up and down my body. “Kundalini Yoga with Maya Fiennes” was right for me. I looked forward to practicing yoga this morning. After months of searching Netflix for a yoga DVD I would benefit from, I placed my order on Amazon for my own copy. http://tinyurl.com/6jqsml7

Fallbrook, CA

Exploring a new village today. Joe’s Hardware, the first sign shown, started my day observing great type design and art. Cafe Des Artistes was behind the art gallery and Mike, the owner of the cafe, said it was modeled after a cafe in New York City. After my muffin and mocha, I needed to see the mural inside. “Of course, you could take a photo. Only if you can name all the artists,” said Mike. Not as easy as I thought.

It was one of those lovely days, browsing, eating, writing, and talking to the friendly locals. A slice of life that stands out amongst mundane routine.

Circle of Trust

The human species was created to use pictures as their first form of communication.

When I started this piece, I drew a point on the bottom which represented me. Then I drew a coil shape that surrounded me in layers. After that, I drew lots of other small yellow points and that represents all the people that are or will be around me. Some or many I may not even know yet. They have different colors of energy around them and we are all encased by glowing yellow/orange beams of light. It may be the “Glowing Ball of Energy” that I went back in the cave for.

This is a healthy organism. It has healthy energy moving within it. Even though parasites or disease are trying to penetrate, the energy flowing inside is enough to ward off all unwanted debris.

Six Years Old

My closed eye with long lashes towards the bottom was left untouched. Above it and left of center is an opening of sorts. Heavens of healing pour down on it. What a difference a new day makes! It helps to see how far I’ve come to know how far I have yet to go. I dream about having enough. Good can come out of anything. Use a “good filter.” Through everything you can see good when you use the right filter. Then the good pours down.

Distracting myself with things that stop me from moving in the right direction. That includes wasting my thoughts on the actions of others. I am putting my focus on what I think and what I do and things that are good to do. Like painting. It feels so good to have a quiet day to paint. All those days I painted in Weho were wonderful. I want to get back to that schedule when I painted 3o% of my week.
