Museum of Art in R. Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga has a Museum of Art! After searching the internet for galleries near my home, I was thrilled to find an art gallery nearby. On one rainy Sunday afternoon, I visited the museum and was greeted by Joyce who talked about the art and the history of the museum. I immediately became a member. One month later, at the Zornes’ Birthday Celebration I met more members. Now I am designing postcards for their upcoming exhibits. The postcard above is for the museum’s next art show called Figurative Vision. It features three artists who explore the human figure through line, color, and shape.

My challenge was how to evenly display three pieces of artwork, one tall and the others horizontal. My mind’s eye immediately saw the postcard split in three vertical shapes bleeding off the edges and cropping each painting to fit this space. Knowing that most clients want their logo BIG, I placed a big CCAA logo on the lower left. The exhibit chair asked me to make the logo much smaller and said it can even blend in with the artwork. Strange how most clients wanted their logo to be huge. “It shouts,” I would say, but in the end the client had the final say. Though this client understood the benefit of smaller elements surrounded by white space or “breathing room.” It may be because he is an artist himself. He is a photographer, author, and teacher. His website is genesasse.com.

Figurative Vision opening reception is on August 21, 2:00-4:30 pm and the show runs until October 2, 2011. If you are in the area, stop by to see some great art in a warm, inviting space. Visit http://www.ccaamuseum.org for more information.
